The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has an active case against Chakraborty Mithun, a longtime actor and BJP politician, for alleged illegal construction on his Malad property in the E range village.
As stated in the document, the ground floor and mezzanine floor, along with three 10 x 10 foot temporary structures, were made out of a mix of timber, glass partitions, and AC sheet roofing adorned with brick exterior. The building was constructed without properly sanctioned municipal permissions.
The notice, issued under Section 351(1A) of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, instructs the actor to make a reasonable justification within seven days, after which the civic body reserves the right to demolish the structure at the owner’s expense, face prosecution for Section 475A which has clauses for fining or imprisoning the offender.
Amid a sustained drive against illegal constructions in the Madh area, where over 130 illegal structures have come to light during inspections, BMC officials have taken action. Civic officials have taken steps to remove several such structures and have publicly committed to complete removal by the end of May.
Responding to allegations, Mithun Chakraborty stated, “I have no unauthorised structures; the notices have been sent to one and all, and we are sending a reply to the BMC.” So far, he has maintained that his property adheres to all laws and regulations and that the notice is part of sustained action, which appears to be affecting multiple landlords in the area.
As of now, the BMC is waiting for Chengraboty’s official reply while maintaining its construction enforcement policies in the suburbs of Mumbai.
