According to recent government reports, India recorded 164 new COVID-19 cases in the recent week, with Kerala and Maharashtra emerging as states with the highest numbers. The country’s active caseload stands at 257, which shows a slight increase in the infection rate in light of recent reports of infections from Southeast Asia.
Kerala is also leading the new cases, reporting an additional 69 infections over the past week. Maharashtra reported an additional 44 cases and two deaths. Health officials stated that the two deaths were not directly related to COVID-19 and only tested positive after death. The rest of Tamil Nadu added 34 new cases. Other states, such as Karnataka and Puducherry, showed 13 and 10 active cases, respectively.
Maharashtra currently has 56 active COVID-19 cases, while Kerala and Tamil Nadu have 95 and 66 active cases, respectively. The rise in case numbers parallels Singapore and Hong Kong, which are witnessing an upswing in COVID-19 cases, so officials in India have started to monitor the matter closely.
Public health specialists issued recommendations regarding mask usage in public spaces for hypertensives, diabetics, and other chronic diseases. It is no surprise that during this time of the year, we have the rise of multiple diseases like COVID and influenza, along with uncontrolled seasonal diseases due to the rampant monsoon.
Healthcare authorities have urged the necessity to exercise additional caution, and timely testing detects any new variants that may enter. At this moment, the situation is under control. Still, people must exercise absolute restraint on the number of infectious diseases; we’ll see a real rise around the time India experiences an uprising of COVID positivity.
